By STU MERRY
What a time to shine for the Garrison-Max track team. More members punched their ticket to state, and a number of personal bests were set. What’s also exciting is that Cassidy Huesers, a senior who will be taking her talents to Dickinson State University, was named the region’s Senior Athlete of the Year.
Already headed to state were Kaitlyn Klein in the 100m and 200m dashes, Cassidy Huesers in the 1600m and 3200m run and Trevor Schmidt in the 110m hurdles. Joining them at the regional meet, Friday in Minot, were Haley Huesers in discus and the 4x100 girls relay team of Hailey Whiteowl, Sarah Lagge, Danielle Dimitch and Kaitlyn Klein.
Co-Coach Carrie Magandy said Cassidy’s qualified for state the past three years. She’s also a cross country runner and played basketball for the Max Cossacks.
Magandy had high praise for the senior.
“Cassidy is the type of runner who can be beneficial anywhere she is needed,” Magandy said.    “She leads the team by example and leadership and will be greatly missed next year.”
Cassidy said she hopes to close out her high school career in style.
“This week at state I hope to run my best and enjoy my last high school track meet,” she said.
Turning to personal bests, the coaching staff gave high praise to the athletes.
