Trooper boys fall in opener

The Garrison boys’ basketball season got underway on a sour note this past Friday when the Troopers fell to Berthold 76-45.

Coach Jason Mattheis said he looks at the glass as half full, saying the game was better than the score showed.

"Our guard play was pretty solid. Berthold played a full-court man-to-man defense the entire game and our guards handled the pressure extremely well," Mattheis observed.

The Troopers committed a few turnovers due to the stifling pressure, but Mattheis said none could be attributed to the guards.

"I thought we were pretty solid defensively," he continued. "We forced Berthold to take a lot of tough shots, unfortunately they were able to convert. They (Berthold) are an excellent shooting team."

The Troopers had a strong first and fourth quarter, but sandwiched in between were two quarters that weren’t as productive.

Leading the Troopers was Allen Iglehart with 13. Eight Troopers earned their way into the score book. The Troop was 11-20 from the line. Lucas Bloms led all scorers with 25 for Berthold.

"The game gave us a few more things to improve on," Mattheis went on to say. "But it also showed us some things we are doing well.
