Troopers set for regionals

Troopers set for regionals
Already it’s time – time for regional plan. Action is slated to begin Friday with a play-in game that will pit the Garrison Troopers against the Turtle Lake-Mercer Trojans. The game will be in Garrison.
The Troopers took care of business against the Trojans Monday night in Turtle Lake, winning two. The counter saw the Troopers prevail 6-5. In the junior high tilt, the Troop won going away, 11-0.
The Troopers are 3-5 in counter games. Overall the Troop’s record stands at 5-9.
Reflecting on the weather-shortened season, Coach John Crawford noted the Troop began the season terrible at the plate.
“We couldn’t buy a hit,” he said. “We probably started the season with a team batting average of about .155.
Crawford speculates that what hurt the Troopers the most was the delay in the season due to weather.
“More than any other team we started out right into region games,” he said.
But as the rust wore off, up went the team’s batting average.
“Now, I’d say we are in the upper .300’s,” he said.
What’s the difference? Crawford said it’s not swinging for the fences – rather to simply put the ball in play.
Now, in the fielding department, Crawford says he likes to brag a bit.
