Board approves kindergarten split

Board approves kindergarten split
By Jerry W. Kram
In a special meeting Tuesday, the Parshall School Board approved splitting the kindergarten class in to two sections, provided a replacement teacher can be found.
Superintendent John Weidner presented a plan that he, kindergarten teacher Barb Waldock, Elementary Principal Brenda Herland and a subcommittee of the board drew up following at the direction of the board at last week’s regular board meeting. The class needs to be divided because the school was informed of a rule change from the state level that the mandatory age for school attendance was lowered from seven to six. That change meant an additional four students were enrolled in Parshall’s kindergarten, increasing the class size from 22 to 26. Accreditation rules state that classes should be no larger that 25.
