Babe Ruth shines in undefeated season

Many have tied but none succeeded in bringing down the Makoti Babe Ruth team this season. Following two quick wins in a tournament last Saturday, the home town boys capped off their season going undefeated at 11-0 in league action. Since Makoti’s Babe Ruth team is unsanctioned, they have no where to advance despite the incredible achievement.
When asked what made the team perform so well this season, coach Sonny Bozza pointed to their veteran experience and overall team chemistry.
“Last year was the first year I got to coach this team and we worked on fundamentals,” he explained. “They all pretty much returned so this year we didn’t have to work that much on little things and were able to get more into complex strategies. They worked so hard every practice. They are an excellent group of baseball players.”
The Mavericks were the top seed going into the end-of-the-season tournament in Makoti last weekend. It offered them a first round bye so they were exempt from playing during Friday’s blistering heat. Their first opponent on Saturday was Kenmare, which they were able to dispel in an abbreviated five innings.
