Braves down Crusaders for District Championship

By Jerry W. Kram
The Parshall Braves are the 2017 District 15 Boys Basketball Champions. They beat the Trinity Christian Crusdaders 66-58 to take the title. They will play in the Region 8 Tournament in Williston starting on Monday.
The Braves started out quickly, jumping out to a 21-7 lead in the first quarter. Jelani Foote dominated the first half scoring 17 points. The Crusaders started playing catch-up in the second quarter and closed the lead to 10 at the half 34-24. On the defensive end, Deyondre Simpson helped keep the Crusaders in check with three blocked shots and four steals.
“We were trying to play tough defense and everything was back and forth there for a while,” said Braves Head Coach Coby Rabbithead. “Trinity Christian deserves a lot of credit. They played us really tough.”
The teams traded shots in the second period and the Braves stubbornly clung to a double digit lead. The Crusaders were able to get within six points with five minutes to go in the game, but Parshall’s big men, Simpson and Billy Moran finally got open in the final quarter. Simpson and Moran both finished with 14 points, and both scored 10 of those points in the second half.
