Braves split over holiday break

The Parshall Braves boys basketball team split the two games they played over the winter holiday break. The Braves downed the North Star Bearcats 61-55 in December but opened the new year with a 68-54 loss to the Lewis and Clark – Berthold Bombers.

The Braves took on the Bearcats at the Minot State Dome on Dec. 30. North Star jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter, 14-8 and hung on to that lead for the rest of the half. The teams headed to the locker room at the half with the Braves trailing 29-24.

The third quarter was decisive in favor of the Braves. They outscored the Bearcats 21-14 to take a 45-43 lead into the final eight minutes. Parshall added to their lead in the fourth quarter to seize the six point win.

Monte Goodbird paced the Braves with 20 points. Deyondre Simpson contributed 14 and Billy Johnson added 11.
