Braves top Eagles in Volleyball

The Lady Braves of Parshall survived a scare in the first game of their match with the New Town Lady Eagles in New Town Tuesday night, but they held on to take the first game and win the match 3-0. The win breaks a streak where the Lady Braves lost to Watford City and Burke County this week.

The Lady Braves started out the match against the Eagles slowly. Coach Kevin Turner said several the girls were battling illness before the game. The Eagles built up a small lead early in the game but the Lady Braves managed to catch up and tie the score at 18. The teams traded side outs but the Lady Eagles gained the first match point at 24-23. However, Parshall scored the next three points to take a 1-0 lead. The Lady Braves dominated the next two games 25-12 and 25-15 to sweep the match 3-0.

"We were a little slow," Turner said. "I think a lot of it was overconfidence. Then they had to wake up a little. A bunch of them are sick, clogged up and coughing. It slowed them down a little bit. Sometimes they get into a place where they are only playing as good as the team they are playing against."
