The District 15 Volleyball Tournament in Parshall kicked off Tuesday with three teams cruising to straight set victories. Williston Trinity Christian, New Town and Parshall all advanced to the semifinals. The top seed in the district, Watford City, had a bye.
The Trinity Christian Crusaders, ranked fifth in the tournament, upset the fourth seed Alexander Comets three sets to none in the opening match of the tournament. The Crusaders were tested by the Comets but prevailed with scores of 26-24, 25-19 and 25-23. The Crusaders will match up with top seed Watford City in the second game on Thursday, Nov. 3.
The Parshall Braves have the third seed in the tournament and came out quickly against the sixth seed Trenton Tigers, winning the first set 25-14. The next two sets were closer but the Braves prevailed in both, 25-21 and 25-22.
The second seed New Town Eagles had little trouble taking care of the seventh seed White Shield, despite an enthusiastic cheering section for the Warriors. The Eagles took care of business, winning the first two sets handily, 25-14 and 25-10. The Warriors started fast in the final set and had a 6-1 lead. But the Eagles dominated after that opening salvo and took the final set and match 25-13.
