Family Fishing Derby’s a splash

The Three Affiliated Tribes Game and Fish 4th Annual Family Fishing Derby was a success, with 63 participants aged 1-18 years old who came out to fish with their families. Families came from New Town, Parshall and White Shield for the derby July 7 south of Four Bears Casino and Lodge.
The kids caught 23 fish total. The big winner of the day was Clevelyn Standingalone, 12, who caught a 10-pound northern pike and two bass weighing 2.4 and 1.5 pounds. Marissa DeGroot and Nyles Dancing Bull, both in the one through eight age groups, also had a successful day, catching a four-pound pike and a 12-ounce bass, respectively, and sharing a two-pound, three-ounce bass. Kolby Overlie, 10, reeled in two pikes weighing three pounds, nine ounces and two pounds, 10 ounces. Other winners were Xavier Bell, Aletha Morsette, DeSean Finley, Samuel Johnson, Jasmyne Dancing Bull, Paul Staples and Charlotte Young Bird.
Fred Poitra, Game and Fish Director for Three Affiliated Tribes, said the derby has been a good experience for everyone involved.
“It’s good for the tribe and good for the kids,” he said.
Those working for Game and Fish at the derby felt it was personally rewarding.
