Getting ready for spring

By Jerry W. Kram
There may still be more snow than green grass on the fairways of the Edgewater Country Club, but that has stopped a group of area students from getting ready for the upcoming golf season.
Carroll Howling Wolf is Golf Coordinator for the MHA Nation Fitness and Recreation Department. He is also the Middle School Golf Coach for the New Town School District. He has been working with nearly a dozen student athletes to prepare for the upcoming golf season that begins – weather permitting – on April 1.
With temperatures below zero and snowbanks above their heads, the students weren’t likely to get much practice outside for the past few months. Howling Wolf said that two golf simulators, one in the Northern Lights Wellness Center and the other at the 4 Bears Marina made holding a winter league possible.
“You can’t golf outside without a snowblower,” Howling Wolf said. “Fortunately Northern Lights purchased this equipment for anyone to use, especially the high school students, and we were able to have this league.”
