Lady Braves fall to second ranked Eagles

In a preview of what may be the championship game in the fast approaching District 15 Girls Basketball Tournament, the Lady Eagles of New Town went on a 17-0 run in the second quarter to slam the door on the Parshall Lady Braves, who came into the game with just one loss on the season.
Michelle Risan was most of the offense for the Lady Braves in the first quarter, scoring eight of the teams 10 points, including two 3-point buckets. The Lady Eagles answered Risan’s production with nine points of their own in the first quarter.
The second quarter began much as the first quarter, with both teams answering each score with another. With about six minutes to go in the half, Lady Eagles Coach Orville Drosdal called for full court pressure against the Lady Braves offense with the score tied 18-18. The Lady Eagles started forcing the Lady Braves to turn the ball over, including three turnovers when Parshall wasn’t able to throw the ball in bounds. That sparked a 17-0 run by the New Town girls to end the first half 35-18.
“I think we panicked,” said Lady Braves Coach Mervyn Packineau. “In that second quarter we kind of had a deer in the headlights look. We didn’t take care of the ball like we should have and we missed assignments. Once we calmed down, we stayed with them all the way. New Town is a very good team defensively and they make you do things you normally wouldn’t.”
