Lady Braves split with Jays, Lions

By Jerry W. Kram

With just two games left before the District 15 Girls Basket Ball Tournament starts, the Lady Braves had a chance to measure themselves against some stiff competition. Parshall defeated the Stanley Blue Jays 67-52 but the Lady Braves fell to the number one ranked Lady Lions of Bishop Ryan in Minot by a score of 86-44. They bounced back by traveling to Bismarck to defeat the Bismarck High JV 64-52.

Parshall got off to a quick start against the Blue Jays on Friday, Feb 7, outscoring Stanley 20-15 in the first quarter. The Blue Jays pulled within one by the half but Parshall was able to restore its five point lead by the end of the third quarter, 52-47. The Lady Braves turned on the defense in the final quarter, limiting the Blue Jays to just five points while scoring 15 for the 67-52 final score.

Cheyenne Packineau scored her 1,000th point during the game and also grabbed 20 rebounds. She led all scorers with 21 points, followed by Kiara Packineau with 16, and Michelle Risan with 14. Chai Pappa and Savanah Meyer led the Blue Jays with 13 points each.

No team has any success against the top ranked Bishop Ryan Lady Lions this season, and the Lady Braves were no exception. The did manage to score 44 points against the Ryan defense, something just a handful of teams have accomplished this year. However, the Lady Lions potent offense outscored the Lady Braves in every quarter cruising to the 86-44 win.
