Cole Hendrickson sank a free throw midway through the second quarter to tie the Region 8 third place game at 19 between Parshall and Watford City. That’s as close as the Braves would get.
Consecutive three pointers by Nick Liebel and Curtis Lohse put the Wolves up for good as they coasted to a 61-49 win over Parshall for third place in Region 8.
Lohse’s three pointer opened up a 25-19 lead but Parshall kept chipping away and as the third quarter started, Hunter Lafromboise hit both ends of a free throw opportunity to bring the Braves back within three.
Unfortunately, things were up and down for Parshall as Watford City had its own game plan, presumably to slowly build their lead based on three-point shots.
After Jaren Enockson missed a jump shot from the top of the key midway through the second, Parshall head coach Derrick Hammonds looked frustrated as he stared out at the court.
Watford City really opened it up in the third quarter when a couple of three pointers and a Reid Johnson drive into the lane put the Wolves up 44-28, giving them their biggest lead of the night at 16 points, a lead that would be equaled later in the fourth at 50-34.
But Parshall wasn’t done playing basketball. Consecutive baskets by Hendrickson and Brandon Bird Lying Down, then fast break buckets by Enockson and Dakota Deane and suddenly Parshall is back in the game, down by 11 points heading down the stretch.
