Harlan Johnson’s cross country teams are hanging tough in a difficult neighborhood.
The Parshall girls cross country team is currently ranked No. 2 in Class B in North Dakota and the varsity boys team is ranked fourth. Johnson is pleased with his runners at this point in the season.
“We have five girls who could be All-State,” Johnson said. “They are led by Alexis (Woods), then Kiara (Packineau), Devanee (Hale) and Desiree (Wells) have been two, three and four all year long, or any combination.”
Johnson said Woods is doing really well, despite finishing 14th in the Magic City Lions Invitational last Saturday. He said she has been improving all season and he anticipates she will continue to improve as the season unwinds. She is currently ranked No. 5 in the state.
But in addition to Woods, the head coach likes what he sees with the work ethic of these girls.
“The girls seem to be working harder,” Johnson said. “I’m not sure what I’m looking for to say, but the desire is certainly there. Maybe they’re just better or more experienced.”
