Hall named to federal trust commission
By Jerry W. Kram

MHA Nation Chairman Tex Hall was one of five Native American leaders named by U.S. Secretary of Interior Ken Salazar to a commission that will oversee the reform of the Native American Trust Fund.
The trust fund was central to a federal court case known as the Cobell Settlement that found that money generated by native owned lands had been mismanaged for more than 100 years. The settlement called for a comprehensive evaluation of Interior’s trust management of nearly $4 billion in Native American trust funds.
Hall said he was honored to be named to the commission. He said the position was important because the trust fund is responsible for collecting revenue generated from tribal lands and disbursing that income back to the tribes and individual tribal members.
