New Town goes dry for a weekend

By Jerry W. Kram
After a compliance check around Halloween by the New Town Police Department, all seven licensed bars and liquor stores failed and were shut down for either two days or a week by the New Town City Council.
Tyler Rintimaki, Chief of the New Town Police Department, explained that the department recruited a 19 year old who, accompanied by two officers, attempted to purchase alcohol at each of the establishments. When the minor was served, the officers cited the bartender for violating the city ordinance.
Two of the establishments, Jasons Supervalu Liquor Store and Corner Liquor, had been cited in a previous sting operation in May. Their license was suspended for a week, from Nov. 23-30. Sportsmans Bar, Teddy’s Lounge, American Legion Club, Players Pub and United Prairie Retail Center Liquor Store were all cited for a first offense. They were required to close Friday and Saturday, Nov. 23-24.
The Edgewater Country Club was also cited in the underage sting in May. The Country Club was closed for the season during the latest enforcement action.
