Students welcome veterans into their school, hearts

By Jerry W. Kram
The New Town Schools have been holding its Veterans Day program for the community for about 14 years, but it is still growing, according to New Town School Superintendent Mark Bluestone.
This year more than 125 people attended the meal and program held in the high school cafeteria including more than 30 students and more than 35 veterans.
Bluestone is a veteran himself, having served in the Army National Guard. He was pleased that the cafeteria was nearly filled to capacity.
“I’m grateful for the turnout tonight,” he said. “It is our school district’s opportunity to serve those who protected our freedoms. I’m very glad we can share time with all these good people tonight.”
Bluestone said the celebration started as a small gathering but has grown to about as big as the school can handle. It has become a much anticipated annual event.
