Water quality study on hold

By Jerry W. Kram

A water quality study being conducted by the Fort Berthold Community College and funded by a grant from the Environmental Protection Agency has been put on hold over questions over the studies procedures.
The study is being conducted by the college’s Environmental Science program and is being carried out by instructor Kerry Hartman and his students. Hartman said he spent about $6,000 of the the $21,000 grant collecting, preserving and sending samples for analysis at EPA certified laboratories. He said the process was going smoothly until the project was abruptly halted.
“We had our QAPP (Quality Assurance Project Plan) approved,” Hartman said. “The stop order came from above the anybody I have talked to.
