The New Town Eagles Boys Basketball Team are the 2018 Champions of District 15, defeating the Mandaree Warriors 70-61.
The Eagles road to the championship game began with a victory over the Williston Trinity Christian Crusaders 69-53 and a 65-45 win over the Parshall Braves. Mandaree slipped past the White Shield Warriors in the opening round, 68-65 and upset the Watford City Wolves 77-62. Eagles Head Coach Robert White said there were no easy opponents in the district.
“There are a lot of good teams this year,” White said. “If the two teams that lost (in the earlier games) had been in the other district, they probably would have been going to regionals. We have six quality teams and two got left out. We were fortunate, though.”
The Warriors opened up fast on the Eagles, jumping to a 12-2 lead to start the first quarter. The Eagles finished the quarter strong, pulling to within one and took the lead 17-16 as D.J. LeBeau sank the first shot of the second quarter. The Eagles dominated the second quarter, outscoring the Warriors 22-10. The Eagles began the quarter with a 9-2 run and never looked back. The Eagles were up 37-26 at the half.
